Hi Colin, I just saw your comment in the other discussion ("My 000 Mahogany with Bear"), don't you just love mahogany. I sure do too! Here's a snapshot of some roughed out 2 piece necks, a mahogany guitar just finished and some shavings thrown is as well; what a great material! ![]() |

You sure you've got enough neck blanks there Arnt? I think we should all keep a box of mahogany shavings just to throw back onto the floor after sweeping up, what's a luthier shop without mahogany shavings? Colin |

MMmm....mahogany. I recently spent a fair sum on a pair of 3 meter long, 60mm thick (bit 2.25") boards, in the rough. One wide enough for 1-piece electric guitar bodies (flatsawn), one wide enough for 2-piece bodies, maybe necks, maybe guitar sets, since it's quartered. Was hidden under and behind other stuff at my local wood yard's place Right now, I'm still wondering what to do with it. They'be been cut down to 1 meter lengths for transport purposes, which means they could go in any direction. And for some reason, I can't quite bring myself to look at the big boards and go 'yeah, electric guitar', but necks seem like a decent idea. I really should go back for more... |

Arnt, I didn't realize the volumn of work you do. I'm more than impressed ![]() Did somebody say Mahogany?? Can't resist showing this baby off. Very old and dense Hondo crotch, 1.625" thick. All the sets coming from it are sold to one luthier who likes consistency. He's used it before and it looks so nice on his instruments. ![]() ![]() |

Heh heh heh.... I got something like 5 or 6 sets of this a few years ago from Larry, and when I found out there was another board, I had to have it all! Photos do not do this wood justice, as it dances with the slightest movement in good light. Doesn't sound half bad either.... We're hoping to squeeze a mandolin out of the board, too! Good manhogany is soooooooooo underated. Here's one from the first batch; ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() I'll manage to have a mahogany crotch set or two at GAL.
Retired? Who? ME???& nbsp; That's only a "temporary retirement". Selling out? Nah, just selling stuff that I'll never really get a chance to use in my lifetime. I figure I should give someone else the opportunity to use the wood I'll never get to. Besides, I'll still have oodles of wood left... Hey! Fat lot of good having that wood at GAL will do me! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
